So what actually is nougat, and how did it take off? Far from the simple inside of a Milky Way or Mars bar, nougat actually originated in mediterranean countries, where almonds, honey and fruit were combined with egg whites and left to dry. In fact, the existence of nougat has been traced all the way back to the 15th century, across spain, France and Persia.
